Nigerian Customs Officer Dies Suddenly During National Assembly Hearing
A Nigerian Customs Services (NCS) officer, appearing as a guest of the Public Account Committee of the House of Representatives for an ongoing probe into revenue-generating agencies and government parastatals, tragically died at the National Assembly.
The officer was responding to questions from committee members when he suddenly collapsed. Despite being rushed to the National Assembly Clinic, he ultimately passed away.
Confirming the incident, House spokesperson Akin Rotimi stated, "During the engagement, which occurred around 1.00 pm on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, the official developed sudden health complications. Despite the immediate and diligent efforts of first responders and medical personnel at the National Assembly Clinic, he unfortunately passed away."
Out of respect for the deceased's family, his name is being withheld at this time. The House extended its heartfelt condolences to the officer's family, friends, and colleagues, recognizing his significant contributions to the Nigeria Customs Service and the nation.
The House of Representatives has expressed its readiness to support efforts to understand the circumstances surrounding the incident and is cooperating fully with all relevant authorities to ensure all necessary protocols are followed. Speaker of the House, Tajudeen Abbas, conveyed his condolences, stating, "We are deeply saddened by the sudden loss of a dedicated public servant. Our hearts go out to his family during this difficult time."
