NLC invades Labour Party secretariat in Abuja, demands immediate sack of Abure (Video)
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has taken action at the Labour Party's secretariat, demanding the immediate removal of the party's chairman, Julius Abure.
Led by Theophilus Ndubuaku, the acting Chairman of the Political Commission of the Congress, NLC members invaded the Labour Party's headquarters in Utako, Abuja. They claimed that Abure's planned convention is illegal and lacks the input of major stakeholders.
The NLC accuses Abure of organizing a "secret" convention to re-elect himself as the sole administrator, without transparency or involvement of key stakeholders like the NLC and the House of Representatives caucus.
To address these concerns, the NLC is calling for the formation of a caretaker transition committee to arrange a legitimate and inclusive national convention for the party.
Although the Labour Party's headquarters is currently vacant, NLC leaders have occupied the premises, accompanied by police officers to prevent any vandalism. The union members are chanting against Abure, alleging financial misconduct by the party chairman.
