Nollywood Actor Zack Orji Opens Up About Marriage Strain Due to Controversial Scene in "Glamour Girls"

Nollywood actor Zack Orji has revealed how his role in the 1990s hit film "Glamour Girls" impacted his marriage, particularly a controversial nude scene with co-star Eucharia Anunobi. The scene led to negative rumors and gossip that strained his relationship and resulted in his suspension from his church.

In a candid conversation on the podcast “Nollywood Hardcore: The Legend’s Untold Story” with host Emmanuel Ehumadu, Orji discussed the fallout from the film. He explained that despite his wife's understanding, the external pressures and rumors affected her.

Orji shared that his pastor, responding to troubling reports from church members, decided to suspend him. “My pastor invited me. I was a member of the Board of Trustees of the church at the time. He said he had been receiving too many calls from other board members, saying, 'How can Zack do this? It's scandalous.' He informed me of my suspension, which was supposed to remain confidential,” Orji recounted.

However, the news leaked to the media. While on another film set, a journalist approached Orji for confirmation. “I was angry because the pastor had assured me it was confidential. When I confronted the pastor, he had no explanation for the leak,” Orji said.

The incident led Orji to resign from the church and request removal from all church-related documents. Despite the pastor's later attempts to retract the suspension and keep him in the church, Orji decided to move on.

Orji affirmed that he has no regrets about his role in "Glamour Girls." The 1994 film, directed by Chika Onukwufor, was known for its provocative portrayal of sex work and gender issues, sparking significant conversation in Nigeria. The cast included notable actors like Liz Benson, Ngozi Ezeonu, Pat Attah, and Ernest Obi. Orji clarified that the controversial bathtub scene was an illusion, stating, “We looked like we were naked, but we were not. It was so well done that it created believability for the audience.”
