The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a suspected ritualist, Lekan Akinyemi, for the unlawful possession of a human head, which he allegedly dug up from a grave.

The arrest took place on Monday at around 3:50 pm, carried out by the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Adatan Division. Police Public Relations Officer SP Omolola Odutola confirmed the arrest on Tuesday.

The incident came to light when one Nojeem (surname withheld) reported to the police that on Sunday, June 23, at approximately 8 am, one of his siblings noticed unusual activities at their late father's gravesite located in Isale Itoko, Abeokuta. Upon inspection, they discovered that their father’s head had been removed.

Further investigations led to the identification of the suspect, 45-year-old Lekan Akinyemi, who was found to have dug up the grave and severed the head of the buried corpse.

SP Odutola stated that the case would be handed over to the Anti-Robbery Unit for preliminary investigation before being transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation.

This incident highlights the ongoing issues of grave desecration and ritualistic practices in the region, prompting heightened security measures and investigations by the police to curb such activities.
