Ohio Father Arrested After Allegedly Killing 13-Year-Old Daughter

An Ohio father suspected of murdering his 13-year-old daughter and abandoning her body in an abandoned building was shot and arrested after allegedly pulling a gun on a SWAT team.
Police in Toledo, Ohio, had been tracking 33-year-old Darnell Jones after obtaining an arrest warrant in connection with the death of his daughter, Keimani Latigue. Latigue was found dead on Monday, nearly a week after she was reported missing on March 18.
Toledo police began to suspect Jones after he allegedly provided "inconsistent statements" during interviews with investigators. According to a probable cause affidavit, he was also the last known person seen with Latigue. Jones left the Toledo area and drove several hours to Columbus. Authorities issued an arrest warrant for him on abduction charges on Sunday and alerted officers to detain him if spotted. The following day, police discovered Keimani’s body.

A SWAT team in Columbus, approximately two and a half hours away, located Jones's car and monitored the area overnight between Monday and Tuesday. When Jones did not return, officers suspected he had abandoned the vehicle and began a systematic search of the surrounding streets and alleys.
A SWAT officer eventually spotted a man matching Jones’s description. When officers approached him, he allegedly pulled a gun on them and was shot. A medic assigned to the SWAT team provided immediate medical attention, and Jones was transported to a hospital in Columbus, where he was last reported in stable condition.
Jones has been charged with felonious assault and was arraigned in Franklin County Municipal Court. A motive for the alleged murder has not been publicly disclosed.

The Lucas County Coroner’s Office determined Keimani's cause of death to be "multiple incised wounds of the neck," ruling it a homicide. Her body was discovered on the second floor of an abandoned building on Miami Street, a structure scheduled for demolition in the coming months.
Keimani was reportedly alone at her grandmother's home on the night she disappeared. She contacted Jones, who had dropped her off earlier that evening, around 11:30 p.m., saying she believed someone was trying to break into the house. Jones returned and reportedly stayed with her until early Tuesday morning.
When Keimani failed to show up at school the next day, her grandmother, Dorthy Latigue, reported her missing. She attempted to call Keimani, but the girl's phone reportedly went straight to voicemail.
