Oklahoma boy saves parents after tornado tosses truck

Branson Baker ran for help after a tornado trapped his parents in their truck.

A nine-year-old boy is being praised for heroically saving his parents' lives during an Oklahoma tornado that flung the family's truck into nearby trees. Before sprinting for help, the boy reportedly told them, "Mom, Dad, please don’t die, I will be back."

This incident occurred amidst a series of tornadoes in Oklahoma that claimed the lives of at least four individuals, including an infant, and left dozens injured.

Wayne and Lindy Baker, accompanied by their son Branson, were en route to a friend’s storm shelter in Dickson on Saturday after tornado warnings were issued.

Unexpectedly, they were struck by the tornado while driving, causing their truck to overturn into a cluster of trees. Although both adults were severely injured and trapped inside the wreckage, their nine-year-old son emerged unharmed and sought assistance.

In total darkness, he ran over a mile to seek help, maneuvering through storm debris and downed power lines along the way.

A tornado flipped the Baker family truck, trapping the parents, Wayne and Lindy, inside. Their nine-year-old son Branson emerged unscathed and ran for help.

He successfully located a neighbor who accompanied him back to the crushed truck. Upon their return, first responders were already at the scene, attending to the injured adults.

Johnny Baker, Branson’s uncle, commended his nephew's determination, noting that lightning strikes illuminated his path. He ran with incredible speed and determination, covering a mile in approximately 10 minutes—a remarkable feat for a young child.

Before leaving, Branson reassured his parents with the words, "Mom, Dad, please don’t die, I will be back."

The Bakers were admitted to the intensive care unit at the OU Medical Center, sustaining severe injuries such as broken backs, ribs, necks, among others.
