Writer: Victor NwokoVictor Nwoko

An Oklahoma community is mourning the loss of Allen Ferguson, a devoted father and youth wrestling coach from Chandler, who succumbed to severe burn injuries after rescuing his son from wildfires that swept through the state last week.

Ferguson died from injuries sustained in the deadly fires while saving his 15-year-old son, Will Conley, who remains in critical condition. According to officials, he carried his son through the flames to a nearby road, where fire and rescue personnel later found them. Despite his injuries, Ferguson comforted his son throughout the ordeal in an effort to keep him calm. He was transported to the hospital but passed away on Saturday due to the severity of his burns.

Described by friends and family as a selfless and dedicated man, Ferguson was known for his passion for wrestling, fishing, metal detecting, and Civil War reenactments. Those close to him recalled his ability to bring laughter to any situation and his unwavering support for his family’s interests.

A fundraising effort has been launched to support Ferguson’s family and help cover medical expenses for his son, who is still undergoing treatment. The financial burden of medical bills and rehabilitation remains significant, and the community has been urged to assist during this difficult time.

The wildfires that swept through Oklahoma last week claimed at least four lives, injured over 140 people, and destroyed more than 400 homes and buildings. Extreme winds fueled the spread of embers, worsening the devastation. Authorities have warned that fire risks remain high across Oklahoma, as well as in Colorado, Kansas, New Mexico, and Texas. Elevated fire dangers are expected to persist, with affected regions remaining on high alert.
