Oklahoma killer mom is sentenced to life in prison for shooting dead football star son, 18, and daughter, 16, as they slept at their family home - and injuring surviving 14-year-old girl
An Oklahoma mother who tragically ended the lives of two of her children while they slept has been sentenced to life in prison.
Amy Leann Hall, 43, admitted to the murders of her son Kayson Toliver, 18, and daughter Khloee Toliver, 16, in November 2018, shooting them at close range as they lay in their beds.
Additionally, Hall fired upon her 14-year-old daughter, who miraculously survived. Following the heinous act, Hall attempted to flee, initiating a daring 110mph car chase that culminated in her arrest.
U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Oklahoma Christopher J. Wilson remarked, 'The horrific violence visited upon this family was unimaginable, and nothing will ever make things right.'
On that fateful night, Hall entered Kayson's room while he slept and fatally shot him in the head. Kayson, a celebrated high school football player for Beggs High School, had shown exceptional talent during his senior year before the tragic event.
Proceeding to another bedroom where her daughters were, aged 14 and 16, Hall inflicted fatal gun wounds upon them as well. Khloee, though not immediately killed, succumbed to her injuries days later, while the younger daughter survived after the bullet grazed her head.
Despite the chaos, Hall's younger daughter courageously negotiated with her mother, persuading her to relinquish the gun she intended to use on herself.
Describing the scene, Okmulgee County Sheriff’s investigator Duston Todd praised the daughter's bravery, stating, 'That is heroic to face somebody like that who tried to kill you.'
Hall's son had a friend staying over that night, who alerted authorities upon discovering the tragedy the following morning.
Hall's escape from the crime scene led to a high-speed police chase, during which she reached speeds of 110mph before being apprehended.
Initially, Hall claimed ignorance regarding her motives for the killings, citing severe psychological issues. Later, she alleged she acted to protect her children from her estranged husband, whom she accused of abuse. However, these claims lacked substantiation.
The family had been embroiled in a custody dispute since 2016, adding a complex layer to the tragic events.
Having pleaded guilty to the murders in November 2022 and held in custody since then, Hall received her life sentence this week. U.S. Attorney Wilson reiterated the gravity of the situation, acknowledging that justice, though essential, cannot fully rectify the unfathomable loss suffered by the family.
