Oklahoma man beat his girlfriend up while she was pregnant - then murdered their baby son after he was born, prosecutors say

Smiley, arrested with a gun, now faces a first degree murder charge and a $5m bond, a 'no contact order; with his next court date set for May 22

Prosecutors allege that an Oklahoma man, Hunter Smiley, beat up his girlfriend while she was pregnant and then murdered their baby son 10 months after he was born.

Hunter Smiley, 25, faced charges in January 2023 for assaulting the mother of his unborn son. DailyMail.com has chosen not to disclose her name.

Oklahoma man, Hunter Smiley, 25, faces murder charges for killing his nine-month-old baby

Smiley was charged with domestic assault and battery against a pregnant woman for hitting the mother with pieces of a broken door during a fight after a night of drinking.

However, prosecutors claim that Smiley later murdered their child, named Briggs, just 10 months after the baby's birth. Newcastle Police Department responded to a call on April 10 regarding the baby being non-responsive.

Briggs was found non-responsive and hospitalized with brain bleeding and eye hemorrhaging

Briggs was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, including brain bleeding and hemorrhaging behind the eyes, and sadly passed away on April 12.

When officers from the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation arrived at the home, Smiley was present, and a gun was found on him. He was subsequently arrested and booked into McClain County Jail on a first-degree murder charge on April 15.

Court documents revealed that a 'no contact' protective order had been issued against Smiley, but the mother requested it be lifted so he could be part of his child's birth.

District Attorney Greg Mashburn expressed the tragedy of the situation, stating, "It is tragic when a life is taken so early." He assured that they would pursue justice for Briggs.

Smiley remains in custody with a bond set at $5 million and has been ordered not to have any contact with the victim's family. His next court appearance is scheduled for May 22.
