One Dead, Five Injured in Gun Attack at Turkish Wedding in France
A Turkish wedding in northeast France turned tragic over the weekend when masked gunmen opened fire, resulting in one death and five injuries.
On Saturday night, three gunmen stormed a reception hall in Thionville, where around 100 guests were gathered. The assailants opened fire, killing a man in his 30s and wounding five others.
According to French newspaper Le Figaro, the attack was linked to a conflict between drug traffickers in Moselle, citing local police sources.
Three of the injured, aged between 25 and 50, were critically wounded and rushed to Bel-Air hospital, including a pregnant woman. The other two victims sustained minor injuries from flying glass shards, as confirmed by the local prosecutor's office.
"A group of people went outside to smoke in front of the hall around a quarter past one in the morning. Then three heavily armed men arrived and opened fire in their direction," a police source told AFP.
The attackers used automatic weapons and shotguns, firing multiple rounds at the guests. "The wedding was not targeted as such; it was people who were at the wedding," the source added.
Pierre Cuny, the mayor of Thionville, clarified on Facebook that "all participants come from the urban area of Metz and none from Thionville." He refrained from further comments due to the electoral context but offered "moral support to the victims and newlyweds."
This incident follows a similar shooting in 2023 involving rival gangs in the nearby town of Villerupt, which left five people injured.
