One suspect dies, two others arrested as fleeing armed robbers crash stolen vehicle after stabbing driver in Adamawa
A robbery gang faced misfortune as the stolen vehicle they were escaping with got into an accident, resulting in the death of one of them in Adamawa State.
The spokesperson of the State Police Command, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, confirmed the incident in a statement on Tuesday, April 30, 2024. He stated that the suspects, Umar Faruq and Al Amin Adamu, along with another accomplice, boarded a commercial vehicle from Jalingo, Taraba State, to Yola.
Upon reaching a location between Mayo-Belwa and Ngurore town, they allegedly stabbed the driver on the neck with a knife and robbed him of his vehicle.
The robbers then got involved in a fatal accident a few kilometers away from the crime scene, leading to the arrest of the two suspects and the death of one.
“The Adamawa State Police Command, in a sustained fight against violent crimes, has made significant strides in combating illegal violence against humanity in the state,” the statement read.
"On April 24, 2024, the combined efforts of the police and critical stakeholders led to the apprehension of two individuals for offenses of criminal conspiracy, culpable homicide punishable with death, armed robbery, among others.
"The suspects are: Umar Faruq, 25 years old, a resident of Rumde Baru, Yola North Local Government, and Al Amin Adamu, 25 years old, a resident of Samu Naka, Yola South Local Government. They boarded a commercial vehicle from Jalingo, Taraba State, to Yola, Adamawa State.
"Upon reaching a location between Mayo-Belwa and Ngurore town, they used a knife to stab the driver, Muhammed Suleiman, on his neck, leaving him with a deep cut, and robbed him of his vehicle.
"The immediate response from the police and thorough investigations conducted so far led to the arrest of the perpetrators after they were involved in a fatal accident a few kilometers away that claimed the life of one of the suspects.
“The Commissioner of Police, Adamawa State Police Command, CP Dankombo Morris Falling PSC (+), while commending the effort and dedication demonstrated by the DPO Ngurore and the Good Samaritan for their timely response to distress calls that led to the arrest, assured that the suspects would be prosecuted.”
