Pennsylvania man wore 'Scream' mask while allegedly killing his neighbor
A Pennsylvania man has been arrested and charged with the murder of his neighbor, Edward Whitehead Jr., 59, using a knife and a chainsaw while wearing a mask from the horror movie "Scream," as reported by police on Thursday.
Zak Moyer, 30, of Pennsylvania, was taken into custody after allegedly killing Whitehead Jr., who was pronounced dead on Monday. Responding officers found Whitehead Jr. with cuts on his right arm and head, along with defensive wounds on his hands, according to state police statements to local media.
Trooper Anthony Petroski informed WFMZ that Whitehead Jr. was "struck multiple times with a knife and a battery-operated chainsaw."
Moyer was wearing an "all-black outfit, consisting of a mask of the Scream character from a movie from a few years ago," as stated by Petroski.
Police identified Moyer through surveillance footage showing him exiting the back door of the victim's home, as reported by Lehigh Valley Live. Trooper Petroski clarified that this was not a random attack, stating, "they did know each other."
Upon the police's arrival at Moyer's residence, he communicated with them via a notebook, as per the outlet. Some of his notes made claims about Whitehead's involvement in crimes, which authorities are not investigating.
Moyer's sister disclosed to police that he had expressed intentions to kill his neighbor a week prior to the crime. Moyer later admitted to watching a movie at home after the attack and hiding the chainsaw, knife, and Scream costume.
Moyer's mugshot showed a bruise and parts of a bandage under his right eye, which he claimed came from an altercation with the victim.
The suspect has been arraigned on one charge of homicide and is being held without bail at the Carbon County Correctional Facility. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for April 3.
According to Lehigh Valley Live, Moyer has no prior criminal charges in Pennsylvania, as per court records.
