Pilot and dog swam to shore after miraculously surviving plane crash off California coast

The unidentified man crashed into the waters off Rancho Palos Verdes at around 5:20 p.m., the Los Angeles Times reported.

A pilot and his dog experienced a miraculous survival after their small plane crashed into the Pacific Ocean off California, managing to swim to shore on Sunday.


The incident involved an unidentified man flying a single-engine Piper PA-32 Cherokee Six plane when it went down in the waters off Rancho Palos Verdes around 5:20 p.m., as reported by the Los Angeles Times.


Despite the crash, both the man and his canine companion survived and made the daunting swim of approximately 150 to 200 yards to reach shore, near the Trump National Golf Club Los Angeles, according to the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department (LASD). A bystander who witnessed the plane's descent quickly called 911.

Emergency responders from the LASD's Air Rescue 5 team, along with deputies from the Lomita station and the Special Enforcement Bureau, were dispatched to the scene.


Remarkably, the pilot emerged from the crash uninjured, as confirmed by the Los Angeles County Fire Department to the LA Times.


The 1981 plane involved in the incident sank following the wreck, and initial assessments from the Federal Aviation Administration indicated potential "engine issues" as a contributing factor to the accident.
