Police find 'burnt body' in back garden of 'highly reclusive' family who have not been seen going out for years

Two people have been arrested following the discovery of a burned body in the back garden of a home owned by a 'highly reclusive' family in Bradford.

Neighbours in the quiet cul-de-sac reported hearing screams and noticed smoke coming from behind the detached house. Images revealed charring in the garden and fire damage to some ground floor windows.

Residents mentioned that an elderly man, believed to be in his 80s, lived in the house with his younger wife and her son. Some neighbors speculated that the elderly man might have passed away during the pandemic, as they hadn't seen him since.

Mohammed, one of the neighbors, recounted hearing someone shout about a burning body. He described attempts to open the bolted gate and witnessing a bloodied and mangled body in the garden, likening the scene to a horror film.

Another neighbor, speaking anonymously, remarked on the family's reclusive nature, expressing shock at the sudden incident.

Police confirmed the body as that of an adult male but were working on formal identification and notifying next of kin. Detective Chief Inspector Matt Holdsworth labeled the case as a murder investigation, stating that two individuals were in custody and no other suspects were sought.

House-to-house inquiries and CCTV reviews were ongoing, and authorities urged anyone with information to come forward, especially those using the nearby sports complex who might have noticed unusual activity.

Emergency services responded to the scene swiftly, prompting residents to leave their cars at the road's end. Local councilor Simon Cunningham described the incident as shocking for the typically peaceful community.
