Police gun down suspected armed robber, arrest one, and recover stolen items in Nasarawa

The Nasarawa State Police Command has reported the neutralization of a suspected armed robber named Ifeanyichukwu Ilegalu in the Mararaba area of Karu Local Government during a robbery incident.

DSP Ramhan Nansel, the Police Public Relations Officer, released a statement on Saturday, April 6, revealing that Edache Joseph, another member of the robbery gang, was apprehended.

Nansel elaborated that the arrest stemmed from a recent initiative by CP Umar Shehu Nadada, the state Commissioner of Police, to revamp the community policing approach in the Maraba area, which had seen a surge in robbery incidents.

On April 5, the command received intelligence that a group of 8 armed robbers was targeting residents of Aso pada in Mararaba. Acting swiftly, police personnel teamed up with vigilantes and courageous community members to confront the criminals, resulting in the death of one suspect and the capture of another.

Nansel noted, "The captured suspect is cooperating with the police in their investigation, providing valuable information." He also highlighted the Commissioner of Police's commendation for the collaborative efforts of the police, vigilantes, and the community, urging continued cooperation to rid the state of criminal elements.
