Police Inspector Allegedly Commits Suicide at the Residence of Ex-LG Chairman in Port Harcourt

An Inspector of the Rivers State Police Command, identified as Maxwell Zubu, allegedly took his own life in the Eagle Island area of Port Harcourt on Tuesday. Zubu was reportedly serving as a security detail to a former Chairman of the Port Harcourt City Local Government Area at the time of the incident.
The exact circumstances surrounding the tragic event remain unclear, with details still emerging. The case was reported to the Eagle Island police outpost, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Azikiwe Police Division located at Illabouchi, Mile 2 Diobu, Port Harcourt.
Preliminary investigations were initiated by officers from the Azikiwe Division, who visited the scene as part of standard procedure. A police source, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed that preliminary inquiries have commenced.
Grace Iringe-Koko, spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command and a Superintendent of Police, confirmed the incident and stated that a full investigation is underway. She noted that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) in Port Harcourt for a more comprehensive probe.
“We have commenced an investigation to ascertain the cause of the incident, and we will make our findings public,” she said.
