Police nab Lagos bus driver for ‘unlawful possession of pistols’
The Lagos police command reports that its officers have apprehended Azeez Babatunde, a minibus driver, on suspicion of unlawful possession of pistols in the Maroko area of the state.
Benjamin Hundeyin, the command’s spokesperson, shared details of the arrest on Thursday.
Hundeyin mentioned that the officers, on patrol duty, arrested the suspect while his accomplices managed to escape.
He further stated that two locally-made pistols, two unexpended cartridges, and a knife were recovered during the vehicle search.
“At around 5:00 a.m., anti-crime patrol officers from Maroko Division observed a minibus making a quick U-turn upon spotting them on Hakeem Dickson Street,” Hundeyin stated on X.
“The officers gave chase, but six individuals exited the vehicle, fleeing in different directions.
“The officers caught up with the vehicle and apprehended the sole individual remaining inside, the driver, Babatunde.”
Hundeyin noted that the investigation into the case was ongoing.
