Prague hospital performs abortion on the wrong pregnant woman in horrifying patient mix-up

A pregnant woman, four months along, underwent an unintended abortion at a Prague hospital due to a patient mix-up.

The woman visited Bulovka University Hospital on March 25, assuming it was a routine check-up.

"Due to both patients being Asian and having limited Czech language proficiency, doctors confused her with another patient," said Gynaecologist and vice-chairman of the Czech Medical Chamber Jan Přáda. This language barrier likely contributed to the tragic mix-up.

Under anesthesia, the woman underwent a curettage, a uterine surgery. Following the procedure, she experienced a miscarriage.

"The incident would likely not have occurred with a Czech-speaking patient who could actively resist an unfamiliar procedure," Mr. Přáda commented to Czech media outlet Seznam Zpravy.

The medical professionals involved have been suspended from their duties, as reported by Daily Mail.

A hospital spokesperson stated, "As a result of a serious breach of internal regulations by the employees involved, the surgical procedure was carried out on the wrong patient."

"If our internal investigation uncovers further breaches of mandatory procedures, individuals responsible will be held personally accountable," the spokesperson added.
