Prince Harry on King Charles' Cancer Diagnosis: 'I Love My Family'

Prince Harry has broken his silence regarding his father, King Charles, following the monarch's announcement of a cancer diagnosis and the subsequent visit by the Duke of Sussex to the U.K. to be by his side.

Speaking from Canada, where he is attending the One Year to Go celebrations for the Invictus Games Vancouver Whistler 2025 with his wife Meghan Markle, Harry spoke with Good Morning America's Will Reeve, son of the late Superman star Christopher Reeve, about his father's condition.

Harry revealed, "I spoke to him, and I immediately made arrangements to fly to be with him as soon as possible."

Expressing his gratitude for the opportunity to spend time with his father, Harry stated, "I cherish any moment I can share with my family, especially during challenging times like this."

Regarding his father's health prognosis, Harry respectfully declined to elaborate, stating, "That remains private between him and me."

When questioned about the potential impact of King Charles' illness on the unity of the royal family, Harry, who is engaging with Invictus Games participants and their families, commented, "Illness has a way of bringing families together. I believe it can have a unifying effect."

Harry's visit to the U.K. lasted approximately a day, during which he met with his father at Clarence House before King Charles and Queen Camilla departed for Sandringham. This encounter marked their first meeting since the coronation ceremony in May 2023, where Harry also made a brief solo trip to the U.K.

A source close to the royal household expressed optimism, stating, "It's positive. Hopefully, he'll bring the grandchildren along at some point, as that would be delightful for everyone."

Since stepping back as working members of the royal family in 2020 and settling in Montecito, California, Prince Harry and Meghan have maintained a distance from the royal fold. Despite occasional returns to the U.K., Harry seldom reconnects with his father or other family members.

Prince Harry's memoir, "Spare," released in January 2022, laid bare the rift within the family. According to author Omid Scobie, the subsequent year has seen little change, with the relationship between Prince William and Prince Harry growing increasingly distant and indifferent. Scobie suggests that Harry's memoir served as a final attempt to communicate his long-held feelings to his family, as previous avenues for open discussion have been lacking.
