Russian Commander Blamed for Ukrainian Shopping Center Attack Found Bludgeoned to Death with a Hammer
Col. Dmitry Golenkov, a Russian air force commander responsible for a deadly missile strike on a Ukrainian shopping center, has been found bludgeoned to death with a hammer. Ukrainian military intelligence announced that Golenkov, a senior officer in Russia’s 52nd heavy bomber regiment, was assassinated with the "hammer of justice" in a targeted operation.
Golenkov was allegedly behind the 2022 Kremenchuk attack, which killed 22 civilians in a shopping center, an assault that sparked global outrage. Ukrainian officials confirmed Golenkov had ordered multiple bombing missions from his base in Kaluga, including strikes on civilian targets in Kremenchuk and Dnipro, where a 2023 raid claimed 46 lives.
His body was discovered in Suponevo, Bryansk, with visible head wounds, indicating a calculated killing. This latest assassination adds to a growing list of covert Ukrainian operations against Russian military personnel. Despite expanding operations inside Russia, Ukrainian officials remain tight-lipped about the method used.
The Russian defense ministry has not commented on Golenkov’s death. However, Ukrainian forces have gained a reputation for daring behind-enemy-lines operations, having previously eliminated Russian military figures, including a submarine captain and a military blogger, in similarly covert strikes.
