A San Diego police officer has resigned after he was caught locked in the backseat of his squad car with a female detainee.

A San Diego police officer, Anthony Hair, has resigned following an incident where he was discovered locked in the backseat of his squad car with a female detainee who propositioned him for sex. The encounter, captured on newly released bodycam footage from August 2023, led to an investigation and ultimately Hair's departure from the force.

Hair, a two-year veteran with the SDPD, encountered the female suspect after arresting her on suspicion of car theft. In the footage, the suspect is heard propositioning Hair for sex, to which he responds cautiously due to the recording.

The female suspect propositioned the officer for sex last year, bodycam footage showed.

As they approach the detention center, Hair turns off his bodycam and diverts onto a residential street. Approximately 20 minutes later, he calls for assistance to exit the vehicle, citing embarrassment over the situation.

Although Hair and the woman denied any inappropriate behavior, traces of semen were found on his belt during the investigation. The exact details of the encounter and any potential consequences for Hair remain unclear.

The incident underscores the challenges faced by law enforcement officers and highlights the importance of transparency and accountability within police departments.

Officer Anthony Hair left his post about a month after a probe was launched into the August 2023 incident.
