A Santa Monica boutique manager confronted a woman who allegedly stole jackets from her store, resulting in a dramatic altercation captured on video.

The incident occurred on April 12 outside Gramercy Boutique on Montana Avenue when manager Amber Jolly spotted a young woman leaving the store with suspected stolen merchandise. As Jolly recorded the encounter, she demanded the woman return the jackets, to which the woman responded that Jolly's actions were "illegal."

After the woman handed over two jackets to Jolly, she walked away as the manager told her not to 'show her face' on Montana Avenue ever again

After some back-and-forth, the suspected thief handed over the jackets and walked away while Jolly yelled, "Don't f****** show your f****** face on Montana Avenue again!" Jolly later explained to CBS News that she felt compelled to confront the woman due to a rise in thefts and looting in California, which has led to numerous business closures. "The system is broken, nothing is being done about it," Jolly said.

The video begins with Jolly confronting the woman outside the store, grabbing the handles of her tote bag. "You got my jacket and you need to give it back to me right now," Jolly demands. The woman insists that Jolly is not allowed to touch her, but eventually pulls out two jackets from her bags and returns them.

Jolly (pictured) said that she had a 'meltdown reaction' because she was concerned for her community, including the woman she confronted

After the altercation, Jolly called the police, who advised her to contact her insurance company. Jolly expressed frustration at the lack of consequences for theft, saying, "I just think it's like, the people are trying to get away with it because there's no consequences."

The boutique's owner reassured Jolly that her safety is the top priority and that she is not expected to confront suspected thieves. It remains unclear if a police report was filed against the woman.

According to the boutique's Instagram page, the store (pictured) sells a variety of clothing for men, women, children and babies

Montana Avenue, where the incident took place, is known as a "premier destination street" on the West Side, featuring numerous clothing shops, health and beauty stores, banks, grocery stores, entertainment venues, and dining options.
