Seven students feared dead in Nasarawa rice stampede
Seven students of Nasarawa State University, Keffi, tragically lost their lives in a stampede while trying to obtain rice that was intended to be distributed as palliative by the state government.
According to reports, the students forcefully gained access to the warehouse where the food items were stored for distribution. They overwhelmed the security personnel of the institution around 5 a.m. and broke into the warehouse in a desperate bid to access the palliative.
The Nasarawa state government had issued ID cards to some students to facilitate their admission into the distribution venue.
However, the situation spiraled out of control as students gathered early in the morning, breached security measures, and caused a stampede while attempting to secure the palliative.
Further details about the incident are currently limited and under investigation.
