Shakira addresses rumor she discovered ex Gerard Piqué’s alleged cheating via a jam jar
Shakira responded to a viral report from January 2023 that alleged a jam jar had tipped her off to her ex Gerard Piqué’s supposed infidelity.
More than a year after ShowNews Today's report claimed that Shakira became suspicious upon returning from a trip and finding fruit spread missing — an item her soccer star ex and their sons purportedly don't like — she finally addressed the matter in an interview with the Sunday Times, stating that the story is “not true.”
During the interview, the Grammy winner, 47, acted as if she had no knowledge of what the interviewer was referring to when asked about the headlines, as noted in the profile.
Last year, Shakira chose not to directly address the speculation, opting instead to criticize Piqué, 37, and his girlfriend, Clara Chia Marti, in songs such as “TQG” and “BZRP Music Session #53.”
In Sunday’s interview, Shakira expressed how “good” it felt to write about her separation for her upcoming album, “Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran.” She described the process as helping her "exorcise a lot of the demons that were tormenting me,” adding that she had “put [her] career on hold” during her relationship with Piqué.
Shakira and the professional soccer player began dating in 2010, and they welcomed sons Milan, 11, and Sasha, 9, in 2013 and 2015, respectively.
Regarding Milan and Sasha’s response to her songs about Piqué, Shakira mentioned that “They know that there’s only one way to live life and it’s accepting the pain. And each one of us has different ways of doing that."
“I felt that there was still something there, stuck in my throat,” she continued in the interview. “I needed to get it out.”
The songwriter, who has been linked to F1 driver Lewis Hamilton and actor Tom Cruise post-breakup, hinted at her future dating plans, acknowledging the potential difficulties of an artist dating an athlete.
As for Piqué, he seems content in his relationship with his 25-year-old girlfriend, asserting in April 2023 that he does not “care about people’s opinions.”
