Shocking footage depicts a Las Vegas substitute teacher engaging in a physical altercation with a high school student, who allegedly directed a racial slur at him.

The video, shared on social media, shows Re'Kwon Smith, 27, repeatedly punching a student who was also involved in the fight.

The incident took place in the cafeteria of Valley High School in east Las Vegas last Thursday after the student reportedly used a racial slur against the teacher.

Smith, who has been working as a substitute teacher with the Clark County School District since November 2023, was present at Valley High during the altercation.

Local authorities are using the videos as evidence and have arrested both the student and the teacher, according to sources familiar with the matter.

The police have confirmed that Smith will be removed from the substitute teaching pool of the district and will no longer be permitted to teach within the district.

Footage from the scene captures both individuals exchanging punches before the student falls to the ground. Reports from Channel 13 indicate that the student is receiving medical treatment at a local hospital.

Valley High School's principal, Kimberly Perry-Carter, informed parents about the incident, stating that the school is aware of the situation but is awaiting further information from the CCSDPD investigation.

A statement from CCSD officials emphasized that violence in any form is unacceptable and contradicts the core principles of education and respect. They assured that any teacher-student altercation is thoroughly investigated, and appropriate disciplinary measures are implemented.

According to court records, Smith is facing multiple criminal charges, including battery resulting in serious bodily harm, assault of a school pupil on school property, making threats of bodily harm to a public school student, and obstructing a student's attendance at school.

Smith is currently held on $9000 bail at the Clark County Detention Center and is scheduled to appear in court on Friday.
