Shocking Video Shows Jewish Student Assaulted in Alleged Antisemitic Attack Outside Canadian High School

A video of the alleged assault posted on social media shows a female student running up to Tsurkan and launching an assault on her.

A disturbing video has surfaced showing Shaked Tsurkan, an Israeli Canadian student, being assaulted by a classmate outside Leo Hayes High School in Fredericton, New Brunswick. Tsurkan identified her attacker as an older female Muslim student who had allegedly threatened her earlier that day, according to Canadian Jewish News (CJN).

The student wearing black can be seen receiving multiple blows to her head.

The video, posted on social media, depicts a female student in a pink hoodie running up to Tsurkan from behind, grabbing her by the hair, and delivering multiple punches. The attack took place in a parking lot off school grounds. Bystanders, some of whom were recording the incident, watched as Tsurkan was dragged to the ground and continuously struck. A man eventually intervened to stop the fight.

Tsurkan said she was left with black eyes and multiple cuts, scratches and bruises.

Tsurkan suffered black eyes, multiple cuts, scratches, and bruises from the assault. The assailant received a five-day suspension, according to Tsurkan. Upon her return, Tsurkan was advised to use the teachers’ washroom, stay inside the school building during the day, and avoid walking alone.

Tsurkan expressed her frustration to CJN, stating, "I want the school to know (what happened is) not OK... (The school) is still saying it’s my fault that I went outside. They’re blaming me about what happened."

Anglophone School District West spokesperson Paul MacIntosh said the school was "aware of an act of violence that occurred."

Paul MacIntosh, spokesperson for Anglophone School District West, told the National Post that the school administration took the incident very seriously, involving the local police for support.

The Fredericton Police Force confirmed that its Major Crime Unit is conducting an active investigation into the matter.
