Singaporean pianist Jessie M, 16, is youngest recipient of Young Steinway Artist title
Talented pianist Jessie Meng, known by her stage name Jessie M, has recently earned the esteemed title of Young Steinway Artist in January, marking her entrance into an esteemed community of virtuosos.
At just 16 years old and a student at Raffles Institution, Jessie is the youngest pianist ever chosen by the renowned American piano manufacturer Steinway & Sons. To be designated a Steinway Artist is a prestigious honor, indicating a pianist's exclusive commitment to performing on Steinway pianos.
Among the notable Singaporean pianists in the Steinway family are Abigail Sin, Mervyn Lee, and Wang Congyu.
This latest achievement adds to Jessie M's impressive list of accolades, which she has been accumulating since she first started playing the piano at the tender age of four.
Her journey began at six when she graced the stage at ChildAid 2013, an annual charity event organized by The Straits Times and The Business Times in support of the ST School Pocket Money Fund. Her talent was further showcased at the 2021 ChildAid concert.
By the age of 11, she had already clinched the title of the youngest Grand Prize Winner at the Steinway Youth Piano Competition in 2018. She later represented Singapore in the Steinway Regional Finals Asia Pacific, where she secured the position of second runner-up.
Jessie M's achievements continued to soar as she emerged as a prize winner at the prestigious 2023 Lang Lang Futian International Piano Competition. She has also graced renowned stages including Carnegie Hall in New York and the Paris Opera Bastille.
Next on her agenda is her highly anticipated solo recital titled "Dark Stories," scheduled for March 19 at the Victoria Concert Hall. Audiences can expect to be mesmerized by her renditions of works by Liszt, Ravel, Chopin, Liebermann, Scriabin, and Bolcom.
