The small plane collided with a bus on Avenida Marquês, in Sao Paulo, Brazil, on Friday, killing at least two people and wounding others.

At least two people were killed Friday morning after a small plane crashed onto a busy road in São Paulo, Brazil, colliding with a bus and leaving charred wreckage scattered across the highway.

The crash occurred around 7:20 a.m. local time along Avenida Marquês in the coastal district of Barra Funda.

According to military police, both fatalities were passengers aboard the aircraft, who were burned to death upon impact. Six others sustained injuries, including a motorcyclist and a woman on the bus who were struck by flying debris.

Footage from the scene showed thick black smoke and bright orange flames engulfing parts of the roadway. The twin-engine King Air plane had taken off from Campo de Marte Airport and was en route to Porto Alegre in the southern state of Rio Grande do Sul when the control tower lost contact with the aircraft minutes before the crash.

Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the crash. Emergency crews, including firefighters and traffic personnel, were deployed to rescue victims and secure the area.

São Paulo Mayor Ricardo Nunes expressed his condolences and assured that support structures were in place to assist those affected.

"We are providing all necessary aid to the victims," Nunes said in a statement on X.

"Unfortunately, we started the day with this tragic plane crash," Sao Paulo Governor Tarcisio de Freitas wrote on social media, adding that the victims were the pilot and co-pilot of the aircraft.

"It is worth highlighting the quick action of the fire department, which extinguished the flames in just a few minutes and prevented this tragedy from being even greater."
