Soludo admits refusing to construct road due to political affiliation
Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has revealed that he initially resisted the idea of constructing a road in Okpoko community, located in the Ogbaru Local Government Area of the state, because the House of Representatives member representing the area, Noble Igwe, belonged to the opposition party.
Soludo explained that when Igwe raised concerns about the deteriorating condition of Nwokedi Street, he disregarded them due to Igwe's political affiliation with the opposition.
Speaking during the inauguration of 12 kilometers of roads in the Okpoko area on Monday, the governor said, "I initially turned down the proposal to improve Nwokedi Street because the House member representing the area was previously affiliated with the opposition. At the time he highlighted the road's poor state and suggested repairs, he was in the opposition, and I did not give heed to his suggestions."
"However," Soludo continued, "I came across the road during a walk one day, which the honorable member representing Ogbaru Constituency 1, Noble Chukwunoso Igwe, had brought to my attention. Initially, because he was in the opposition, I couldn't take action on the road."
He further added, "Now that Noble Igwe has joined our party and is actively involved, we have paid attention to his concerns. When he was in the opposition, his voice was like one speaking from the parlour, unheard. But today, as a mainstream member of our party, he is part of the decision-making process."
Soludo urged the community to rally behind his administration, emphasizing his commitment to developing areas like Okpoko and ensuring that residents feel included and valued.
"I am dedicated to the development of Okpoko and will spare no effort, even if it means utilizing all available resources in Anambra. Restoring Okpoko is a priority for me, and it's one of the reasons I ventured into governance—to give Okpoko a distinct identity," he affirmed.
