Student from NJ found dead in Bucknell University frat house just weeks away from graduation

Christian Samay, a Bucknell college senior from Mountain Lakes, New Jersey, has been found dead in his frat house.

A 22-year-old political science student from New Jersey has tragically passed away in his frat house at Bucknell University, just weeks before his graduation.

"Christian Samay, of Mountain Lakes, New Jersey, was pronounced dead at 1:50 p.m. Saturday at the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity on University Avenue in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania."

“This is an unspeakable loss for the Bucknell community, and our hearts go out to Christian’s family and friends,” said college president John Bravman in a statement.

Bucknell did not provide details about where exactly his body was found or how officials suspect he died.

Bravman clarified, “I wish to note that his death was unrelated to last night’s active shooter alert and campus lockdown and that the circumstances are not suspicious. I call upon all Bucknellians to support each other in this difficult time, and to keep Christian’s family in your prayers.”

Union County Coroner Dominick Adamo mentioned that an investigation is ongoing, with an autopsy scheduled for Tuesday.

In response to the tragic event, Bravman announced that classes would be canceled on Monday, and counselors and campus chaplains would be available to students.

The school called the student's death "an unspeakable loss" for its community.

“Please know that the safety and security of our students are our utmost priorities,” Bravman assured the college community.

An alert was sent out regarding an investigation at the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity, situated at 78 University Ave., the private liberal arts school located about 60 miles north of Harrisburg, the state capital.

Bucknell spokesman Mike Ferlazzo confirmed to USA Today that Samay was a senior, though the school did not disclose further details about the circumstances surrounding his passing.

Christian Samay's death is not considered suspicious but an autopsy will determine the cause of death

“Our student body is really shaken from the last 24 hours,” shared student Amaya Becker on Facebook. “Nothing is currently set in stone, but the students are currently organizing to have their own vigil on the campus quad in remembrance.”

According to his LinkedIn account, Samay was set to graduate with a bachelor’s degree in political science. He had previously interned at M&T Bank in Baltimore, investment firm KBW in Florham Park, New Jersey, and Digital Capital Advisors in New York City.
