Two people sustained injuries after a suspected suicide bomber detonated an improvised explosive device near a mosque in Biu Local Government of Borno State.

The state Public Relations Officer, ASP Daso Nahum, confirmed the incident on Monday, stating that the victims have been taken to the hospital for treatment.

The incident occurred around 8 pm on Sunday while Muslim worshippers were observing their night prayers.

"The male suicide bomber, who was suspected to be heading to the mosque, detonated the Improvised Explosive Device close to the roundabout, killing himself," Nahum explained. "Two passersby were wounded by the explosion and were immediately rushed to the hospital for treatment."

A combined team of security personnel promptly responded to the scene to restore normalcy.

Nahum emphasized the need for heightened vigilance, especially during Ramadan when late-night prayers are common, urging people to report any suspicious activities to the security agencies.
