Supreme Court Affirms Adamawa Governor Fintiri’s Election.

On Wednesday, the Supreme Court confirmed Governor Ahmadu Fintiri's election in Adamawa State.

In a unanimous decision by a five-member panel, the apex court rejected an appeal filed by the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its candidate, Senator Aisha Dahiru, also known as Binani. They challenged the results of the governorship election held on March 18, 2023.

Led by Chief Akinolu Olujimi, SAN, the appellants asked the court to cancel Fintiri's victory from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and overturn the decisions of the Court of Appeal and the Adamawa State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal, both of which upheld Fintiri’s re-election.

Senator Dahiru insisted that she received the most valid votes and was correctly declared the winner by the state’s Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC. Among other things, she requested the court to determine the legitimate Returning Officer in a gubernatorial election.

However, Fintiri, represented by his lawyer, Mr. Damian Dodo, SAN, urged the Supreme Court to dismiss the appeal and confirm his election victory. Fintiri argued that he won by securing the majority of lawful votes and meeting all the legal requirements.

Similarly, both the PDP and INEC requested the court to dismiss the appeal and uphold Fintiri’s election victory.
