Surprise Arrival: Woman Who Gave Birth in Golden Corral Bathroom Unaware She was Pregnant
When the Woodfork family sat down at a Golden Corral in North Little Rock, Arkansas, on May 4, they were a party of 11. They left as 12 after an unexpected birth in the restaurant's bathroom.
Tayvia Woodfork, 26, rushed to the restroom complaining of stomach pain shortly after arriving at the all-you-can-eat chain for lunch. Unbeknownst to her, she was 37 weeks pregnant and in active labor. Tayvia experienced a cryptic pregnancy, a rare condition where a person is unaware of their pregnancy for most or all of the term.
“There were no signs,” Tayvia’s mother, Tameka Woodfork, told TODAY.com. “We had no idea.”
After Tayvia spent 10 minutes in the restroom, Tameka went to check on her. Realizing her daughter needed immediate medical attention, Tameka called 911. Moments after paramedics arrived, Tayvia gave birth to a healthy 6-pound, 1-ounce baby boy.
“They were still trying to figure out what was going on when she goes, ‘It’s out! It’s out!’” Tameka recalled. “The baby was in the toilet.”
News quickly spread throughout the restaurant, and patrons applauded as the family exited. Tayvia named her son Tamaar Kylon Corral Woodfork, choosing "Corral" to honor the unique birth location. Suggestions to name the baby “Golden” were considered, but ultimately, Tayvia preferred "Corral." Tamaar joined his 2-year-old big brother, Taylon.
Golden Corral celebrated the birth on social media, crowning Tamaar as the chain’s “youngest fan.” A spokesperson expressed the restaurant's honor in being part of such a momentous event, saying, “No honor compares to having Tamaar carry on the ‘Golden Corral’ brand name in his own name, Tamaar Kylon Corral Woodfork!”
The restaurant also gifted the Woodfork family a box of baby essentials and a Golden Corral gift card. According to his mom, Tamaar already has a fitting appetite for a baby born at an endless buffet!
