Taekwondo Family in Cypress, Texas, Saves Woman from Attempted Sexual Assault
A family of taekwondo instructors in Cypress, Texas, heroically intervened to save a woman from an attempted sexual assault, subduing the suspect until police arrived, CBS affiliate KHOU reported.
Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez shared on social media that instructors from Yong-In Tae Kwon Do heard screams from a nearby store and saw a "male attempting to sexually assault a female."
"I saw a man on top of a woman and the woman was on the ground," Hannah An, an instructor at the studio, told KHOU.
In that critical moment, her brothers, Christian and Simon An, and their father, Grandmaster Han An, sprang into action.
The family managed to pull the woman away from her assailant, who then attempted to attack them, Gonzalez said. Using their training and discipline, they successfully subdued the suspect.
Deputies arrived to find the suspect, identified as 19-year-old Alex Robinson, pinned to the ground. Robinson was charged with attempted sexual assault, unlawful detention, and assault. A judge set his bond at $100,000, according to KHOU.
Hannah An's mother, Hong An, took the woman to their dojo to ensure she was safe and unharmed.
While the family has been praised as heroes, Hannah An humbly remarked that anyone could have done the same.
"I thank everybody who's calling us that, but still, I think anybody can do it," she told KHOU.
