Taylor Swift’s dad accused of slugging photographer in Australia during late-night confrontation
Taylor Swift's father, Scott Swift, is reportedly under investigation for an altercation with an Australian photographer at a Sydney wharf following the conclusion of Taylor's Eras tour.
NSW Police have confirmed they are looking into allegations that Scott Swift, 71, was involved in an incident with Ben McDonald, 51, at a ferry wharf in Neutral Bay around 2:30 am on Tuesday.
According to reports, Taylor and her father, affectionately known as 'Papa Swift,' had been celebrating after her final Sydney performance when the alleged altercation occurred.
An investigation into the matter is currently underway by the North Shore Police Command.
McDonald, CEO of Matrix Media Group, recounted that Taylor and Scott arrived at the wharf via a luxury superyacht named Quantum after her performance. Allegedly, Scott approached McDonald aggressively upon disembarking.
McDonald initially mistook Scott for a security guard and was surprised to realize it was Taylor's father who he alleges struck him on the left side of the face.
McDonald stated, "In 23 years of taking pictures, I have never seen anything like it."
He further mentioned being unsure of the trigger for the alleged assault, noting that Taylor walked towards security guards who were holding umbrellas in front of photographers' faces.
Footage of the incident reportedly shows Taylor and her father walking up from the wharf with large umbrellas obstructing the view.
McDonald started filming, and amidst interaction with security guards, he experienced a sudden jolt and movement behind an umbrella. A security guard denied involvement, leading McDonald to report the incident to The Rocks police station.
McDonald did not require medical attention but described experiencing soreness on the left side of his face.
Scott has been a visible presence throughout Taylor's Eras tour, receiving praise for his interactions with fans, including distributing sandwiches during a Sydney show and providing VIP passes to excited attendees before a Melbourne performance.
