Tech billionaire's 16-year-old daughter Mint Butterfield is found in the back of a white van one week after she vanished
Tech billionaire heiress Mint Butterfield was located by police after disappearing in San Francisco. The 16-year-old, the only child of Silicon Valley entrepreneurs Stewart Butterfield and Caterina Fake, went missing from her mother's Bolinas home on April 21.
Marin County Sheriff's Office announced on Saturday that they had found Butterfield safe in the city, with an adult friend. Detectives discovered she was with Christopher 'Kio' Dizefalo, 26, driving a white van. Butterfield was located after tracking down the vehicle.
In a statement, the Sheriff's Office confirmed Butterfield was uninjured and had voluntarily left home. Dizefalo was arrested and booked with bail set at $50,000.
Police had earlier mentioned Butterfield was 'at-risk' due to a reported threat of suicide. She had left her mother's home with a suitcase and a note, believed to be in the Tenderloin area.
Mint, who struggled with addiction, attends a private school in Napa Valley. The Tenderloin is known for its fentanyl crisis and high crime rates.
Butterfield's father, Stewart Butterfield, is valued at $1.6 billion after the sale of Slack to Salesforce. Her mother, Caterina Fake, co-founded Flickr and is an angel investor in the tech industry.
Fake and Butterfield were married until 2007, when their child was born. Butterfield later married Jen Rubio, co-founder of Away. Fake is in a relationship with Jaiku co-founder Jyri Engestrom.
In 2021, Butterfield purchased a $31.7 million mansion in Aspen, Colorado, and also owns a $19 million home in San Francisco's Presidio Heights neighborhood.
