Teen fatally shot by bike-riding gunman in Soho was a Brooklyn student


The teen was rushed to Bellevue Hospital with life-threatening injuries, law enforcement sources said.

A Citi Bike-riding gunman perpetrated a brazen daylight attack outside a luxurious Soho hotel, tragically killing 16-year-old Mahki Brown. The incident unfolded opposite the Dominick Hotel on Spring Street, where Brown sustained fatal gunshot wounds to the head and leg shortly before 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, as confirmed by the police.


Residing in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, Brown was swiftly transported to Bellevue Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries, law enforcement officials added.


The shooting, which took place near Chelsea Career and Technical Education High School, where Brown was a student at Broome Street Academy Charter High School, is suspected to have school-related ties, according to sources.

While the motive remains unclear, sources suggest that the gunfire may have erupted following a dispute between two groups of girls earlier that day. As of now, no arrests have been made in connection to the incident.


Witnesses recalled the harrowing aftermath of the shooting, describing the scene as "sickening" and "movie-like." Justo Cruz, a security guard in the area, expressed shock at the sight of Brown lying injured, emphasizing the need for vigilance even in seemingly safe areas like Soho.


A nearby parking attendant shared his experience of seeking cover upon hearing the gunshots, reflecting the fear and chaos that ensued in the immediate aftermath of the tragic event.
