Teens assault, attempt to rob Uber driver at gunpoint while filming attack

An Uber driver said he was beaten by a group of kids, one of whom was armed, while filming with a phone.

A group of teenagers launched a violent attack on an Uber driver while filming the incident, leaving him with a broken nose and head injuries.


The audacious youngsters, aged between 11 and 17 years old, recorded the assault in Brooklyn using a cell phone, as recounted by the victim, who prefers to remain anonymous due to concerns about potential retaliation.


The woman who had summonsed Uber to the block came upon the aftermath of the incident and took video with her own phone.

“One of them was punching me while another brandished a gun,” the victim disclosed. “He demanded all my belongings, saying, ‘Give me everything – give me all the money.’”


The driver had arrived on Alabama Street in East Flatbush to pick up a passenger named Precious around 7 p.m. Sunday and noticed a group of teenagers across the street. He inquired if they were his fare's acquaintances, receiving a negative response.


The driver said the teens whacked him in the head with a scooter after he fell.

As he turned his head to locate his client, he was suddenly assaulted with a surprise punch through his open window.


“I didn’t see them coming — it was unexpected,” he recounted.


Upon exiting his car to retaliate, he noticed one of the assailants recording the altercation.


A scuffle ensued, during which he was knocked to the ground, with one of the attackers striking him in the head with a scooter.


The driver said he was summonsed to the Flatbush neighborhood on Uber.

The assailants fled when a neighbor emerged and dialed 911. The neighbor also recovered the phone used by the teens, finding footage of the victim on the device.


While awaiting medical assistance, two of the culprits returned in search of the phone.


“The game’s up, the police are on their way,” the driver shouted, prompting their hasty departure. “I’m unsure if their intention was robbery or merely to create a TikTok video.”



The NYPD released photos of the apparent teens who allegedly mugged the driver.

The NYPD has released images of the young suspects.


Precious, the intended passenger, expressed shock over the incident and recorded footage of the teens upon their return to the scene.


“I’m deeply saddened by the actions of these youngsters,” the 28-year-old from Nigeria lamented.
