Bobbie J. Mitchell, a prominent Texas politician and Denton County commissioner, was critically injured and her husband, Fred Mitchell, was killed during a violent stabbing incident at their home in Lewisville early Monday morning. Authorities say the couple’s 23-year-old grandson, Mitchell Blake Reinacher, was arrested at the scene and charged with murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
The attack occurred shortly before 4 a.m. at the Mitchells’ residence on Springwood Drive in northwest Lewisville. According to the Lewisville Police Department, officers responded to a 911 call reporting an assault in progress. Upon arrival, a responding officer heard screams coming from inside the home, prompting immediate entry. Reinacher was located inside and taken into custody without incident.

Both Bobbie and Fred Mitchell were found suffering from multiple stab wounds. They were rushed to nearby hospitals, where Fred Mitchell was pronounced dead around 5 a.m. Bobbie Mitchell, who remains in stable condition, is expected to recover, according to updates provided by local officials.
Reinacher, who lived in the home with his grandparents, is the son of the Mitchells’ daughter. The motive behind the attack remains under investigation, and police have not yet released details on what may have led to the deadly altercation.

Bobbie Mitchell is a highly respected public servant and history-making leader. She became the first Black mayor of Lewisville in 1993, serving until 2000, and then went on to serve as Denton County Commissioner, representing Lewisville and surrounding areas. Her biography highlights decades of civic leadership and community service.
Lewisville Mayor TJ Gilmore expressed his condolences and support for the Mitchell family, urging the community to rally around Bobbie Mitchell during her recovery. “We are saddened, deeply saddened at the loss of her husband, Fred Mitchell,” Gilmore said. “If anybody has ever been at a public event where Bobbie Mitchell has prayed over you, you know that she does an amazing job. Well, now it’s time for the community to give back.”
The Mitchells’ extended family includes a son, nine grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
Reinacher remains in custody at the Lewisville jail. Authorities have not yet confirmed whether he has legal representation, and details about his next court appearance or a probable cause affidavit have not been released.
