Tinubu rewards Super Eagles with national award, plots of land, flats in FCT
President Bola Tinubu, on Tuesday, honored the Super Eagles of Nigeria with a national award, granting them membership in the Order of the Niger (MON), as well as providing them with flats in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, and parcels of land.
President Tinubu announced these rewards during a reception for the players and officials of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) at the Council Chamber, Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The delegation, led by the Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Owan Enoh, was present for the occasion.
The Super Eagles emerged as runners-up in the recently concluded Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), held in Côte d’Ivoire.
All team members, along with officials, attended the event, with Alex Iwobi notably present, despite facing cyber-attacks following Nigeria’s loss to Cote d’Ivoire in the final match of the AFCON.
In a statement released by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, President Tinubu praised the team, coach, crew, and management for their dedication, hard work, and sacrifices throughout the tournament. He acknowledged the challenges they overcame and their consistent improvement, culminating in reaching the finals.
The President encouraged Nigerians to remain positive, highlighting the significant victory the team achieved in capturing the hearts of Africa and the world with their resilience, determination, and performance on the field.
“Let us not be discouraged by recent events but instead unite and strive harder. We are a great nation, united under the banner of resilience, joy, hope, duty, and unwavering love represented by our green-white-green flag.
“To the talented Nigerian youth showcasing their skills in communities, shaping their futures on the football fields, you are the potential heroes of tomorrow; do not give up on your dreams. My administration is committed to turning those dreams into reality,” remarked the president.
