Toni Braxton and Birdman were secretly married for eight months, but their union saw a swift unraveling just two days after the ceremony.
According to court documents, the 57-year-old singer and the 56-year-old rapper, whose real name is Bryan Christopher Williams, were legally married on August 8, 2024. However, Braxton filed for divorce on August 22, 2024, listing their date of separation as August 10 — only two days after they exchanged vows. In the filing, Braxton, identified only as "T.B.," and Birdman, as "B.W.," described the marriage as “irretrievably broken.”

Despite the abrupt move to end the marriage, Braxton dismissed the divorce petition five months later in January 2025, with Birdman signing off on the withdrawal.
Braxton and Birdman’s relationship has been a long and complex journey. The two began dating in 2016, with Braxton finding emotional support from the hip-hop mogul during her battle with Lupus. Their relationship evolved from a deep friendship spanning over 15 years, something Braxton herself acknowledged in 2018, stating she never expected to be romantically involved with her “bestie.”

In February 2018, Braxton confirmed their engagement in the trailer for a new season of Braxton Family Values, excitedly announcing to her sisters, “I have an announcement to make — I’m engaged!” while showing off a canary yellow diamond ring designed by Birdman.
However, by early 2019, the couple revealed they had canceled their wedding plans. At the time, both deleted all content from their Instagram accounts and unfollowed each other, prompting rumors of a breakup. Birdman posted “It’s over” to his Instagram Story before clearing all posts, while Braxton shared a New Year’s Day message encouraging fresh starts: “Starting a new chapter isn’t always an easy choice… but ALWAYS choose to be chosen.”

Later that same month, the two sparked reconciliation rumors after Birdman made a surprise appearance during Braxton’s concert at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta.
On December 31, 2023, Braxton addressed renewed speculation about their marital status, responding to a viral rumor that they had wed in a private ceremony in Mexico. Over a screenshot of the false headline, she wrote “#FAKENEWS” and clarified in her Instagram caption: “My dear friend @birdman and I are not married... never been married. We are both single.”
