Tragic Murder-Suicide Claims Five Lives in Nassau County Family Home
In a shocking murder-suicide on Sunday, five family members were found dead at a quiet cul-de-sac in Syosset, Nassau County, just days after the death of their 95-year-old matriarch. The tragic incident occurred at a small blue house on Wyoming Court, where the family had gathered to prepare the home for sale following the recent loss.
Authorities report that all five victims were shot to death inside the residence, while the gunman took his own life on the front lawn. The Nassau County Police Department confirmed the incident as a murder-suicide.
Real estate agent Mary Macaluso, who was scheduled to meet the family at the home around noon, arrived to find the street blocked off by authorities. "The mom just died, and they were selling the house," Macaluso told Newsday, explaining that she had been asked to assess the property, which was estimated to be worth nearly $900,000.
The family, still grieving the loss of Theresa Martha DeLucia, had gathered from out of state for her funeral and was eager to move forward with selling the home. DeLucia, the longtime homeowner, passed away earlier in the week.
Nassau County Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder confirmed that the shooter, whose identity has not been released, died by suicide on the lawn after killing the other family members. The investigation is ongoing as the community grapples with the devastating loss.
