Transgender Woman Arrested for Allegedly Killing Parents in Utah
A transgender woman, Mia Bailey, allegedly shot and killed her parents inside their Utah home on Tuesday night, according to police and media reports. Bailey, known for frequently changing her appearance and wearing wigs, was apprehended on Wednesday after an extensive manhunt.
The St. George Police Department issued a warning that Bailey should be considered "armed and dangerous" while she was still at large.
"We have some good news," Officer Tiffany Mitchell of the St. George Police Department announced on Facebook. "We have the suspect in custody. Everyone is safe. No one else was injured."
The incident occurred around 7 p.m. in Washington, a city in southwest Utah near the Arizona border. Police discovered the bodies of a man and woman, both with gunshot wounds, in the living room of a home. Bailey was identified as the primary suspect and fled the scene in a yellow Kia Soul.
After several hours, Bailey was cornered in a neighborhood in St. George, approximately 7 miles from the crime scene. Video footage shows Bailey peacefully surrendering to a dozen armed officers after putting down a firearm.
Although the police have not confirmed the relationship between Bailey and the victims, records indicate that Bailey lived with Joseph and Gail Bailey, aged 70 and 69. Gail's brother later confirmed on social media that the victims were indeed Bailey's parents.
"My sister Gail and her husband Blue Bailey were shot dead tonight. I’m numb," he wrote in a post seen by the Daily Mail. "Their own son killed them. My poor mother has lost 3 of her 5 children. You always think it only happens to someone else. Give your brother or sister a call. Stay in touch."
Few details about the killings, including a motive, have been revealed.
