Tukur Mamu and 14 others named as terrorism financiers in Nigeria (Full List)
Tukur Mamu, a Kaduna-based publisher, and 14 others have been implicated in financing terrorism in Nigeria, as revealed by a document from the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU) on Tuesday. Mamu has been held in custody by the Department of State Services (DSS) since September 2022.
The list of terrorism financiers includes nine individuals and six Bureau De Change (BDC) operators and firms. The individuals under sanctions are Tukur Mamu, Yusuf Ghazali, Muhammad Sani, Abubakar Muhammad, Sallamudeen Hassan, Adamu Ishak, Hassana-Oyiza Isah, Abdulkareem Musa, and Umar Abdullahi. The BDCs and firms sanctioned are West and East Africa General Trading Company Limited, Settings Bureau De Change Limited, G. Side General Enterprises, Desert Exchange Ventures Limited, Eagle Square General Trading Company Limited, and Alfa Exchange BDC.
The NFIU disclosed that Mamu was allegedly involved in financing terrorism by receiving and delivering ransom payments exceeding $200,000 in support of ISWAP terrorists for the release of hostages from the Abuja-Kaduna train attack.
The Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), Lateef Fagbemi, designated these individuals and entities for listing on the Nigeria Sanctions List with the approval of President Bola Tinubu.
Additionally, another terrorism financier mentioned by the NFIU is the suspected attacker of St. Francis Catholic Church in Owo, Ondo State, and the Kuje Correctional Centre in Abuja.
Furthermore, a member associated with the terrorist group Ansarul Muslimina Fi Biladissudam, linked to Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM), was identified.
This individual has expertise in designing terrorist communication codes and is an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) expert, having served under Muktar Belmokhtar, also known as One Eyed Out, and led the Al-Murabtoun Katibat of AQIM in Algeria and Mali.
