Twelve Injured as Qatar Airways Flight Hits Severe Turbulence En Route to Dublin
A Qatar airways plane lands at the airport in Frankfurt, Germany, as the sun rises on Sept. 25, 2023. Twelve people were injured when a Qatar Airways plane flying from Doha to Dublin on Sunday May 26, 2024 hit turbulence, airport authorities said., according to airport authorities.
Flight QR017, a Boeing 787 Dreamliner, landed safely at Dublin Airport just before 1 p.m. (1200 GMT). Upon landing, the aircraft was met by emergency services, including airport police and the fire and rescue department, due to reports of injuries from six passengers and six crew members.
“All passengers were assessed for injuries aboard the plane, and eight were then taken to hospital,” stated Dublin Airport.
Qatar Airways confirmed that "a small number of passengers and crew sustained minor injuries in flight and are now receiving medical attention." The airline also announced that an internal investigation is underway.
This incident follows closely on the heels of another turbulence-related event five days prior, where a British man died of a suspected heart attack, and dozens were injured on a Singapore Airlines flight from London.
While fatalities due to turbulence are rare, injuries are not uncommon. Meteorologists and aviation analysts have noted an increase in reports of turbulence, attributing this trend to the potential impacts of climate change on flying conditions.
