Two Australians and Their American Friend Vanish Without a Trace While in Mexico
During the search for three missing foreign surfers in Mexico who did not return to their Airbnb after a surfing trip, a woman and two men were arrested.
Jake, 30, and Callum Robinson, 33, from Perth, Australia, along with their friend Jack Carter Rhoad, 30, from San Diego, vanished in the Baja California region near Ensenada on Mexico's north-west coast five days ago.
After documenting the initial days of their trip on social media, they have been uncontactable since Saturday.
A 23-year-old Mexican woman was arrested in connection to the case, possessing a mobile phone belonging to one of the brothers and methamphetamine. Two Mexican men were also arrested alongside her.
The arrests followed the activation of one of the brothers' mobile phones, which pinged a local mobile tower.
Reports indicate blood was found at three deserted tents where the trio was believed to be staying before their disappearance. A burnt-out white Chevrolet Colorado pickup truck, identified as belonging to one of the surfers, was discovered on a ranch in the Santo Tomás area.
The search area covers hundreds of square kilometers, with investigators on-site examining tents and other evidence linked to the missing surfers.
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese confirmed that the Department of Foreign Affairs is in contact with the brothers' family, expressing concern and hoping for a positive outcome.
The family is making efforts to travel to Mexico, while former FBI agent Phil Andrew highlighted concerns about the phone being in someone else's possession, raising suspicions of foul play.
Debra Robinson, the mother of Jake and Callum, made an urgent appeal for information on Facebook, expressing worry due to Callum's medical condition as a type one diabetic.
Lacrosse Australia also voiced concern, particularly for Callum, described as an 'Australian lacrosse star,' urging the lacrosse community to share information in hopes of finding them safe.
Officials and family members continue to seek information, acknowledging the distressing nature of the situation and the need for ongoing assistance and support.
