Two Teens Arrested in Connection with Stabbing Outside Brooklyn Education Center
Two teenagers have been arrested following the stabbing of a 17-year-old male after an altercation with three others outside a business and education center in Downtown Brooklyn, The Post has learned.
Police responded to Metrotech near Myrtle Avenue and Lawrence Street around 12:50 p.m. on Friday after multiple witnesses called 911. Upon arrival, they found the 17-year-old victim with a stab wound to the shoulder.
Three teens attempted to flee as officers arrived. Two were apprehended while one remains at large. The ages and gender of the suspects are currently unknown. The victim was taken to New York-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital and is in stable condition. A knife was recovered from the scene.
Witnesses reported sheets of paper or pamphlets scattered beside a blood-soaked portion of concrete, highlighting the severity of the attack.
Footage shows multiple officers examining the crime scene, which was cordoned off with police tape. One video captures police speaking to an individual wearing black shoes, shorts, and a shirt, though their connection to the incident is unclear. The Department of Education confirmed the stabbing occurred off-campus and referred further inquiries to the NYPD.
A local worker, Mike, who sells umbrellas at Jay and Fulton Streets, expressed concerns about ongoing issues with rowdy teens in the area, blaming marijuana legalization and numerous pot shops. "I see more kids in the smoke shops than in after-school programs," he said. "Parents need to be held more accountable for their kids' actions... It makes you feel unsafe."
Michelle, 40, a childcare provider, was shocked to learn about the stabbing as she walked through Brooklyn Commons on her way home. "This is New York, so it happens, unfortunately. I hope the kid’s OK. It’s horrible and sad and scary that kids are doing that," she said.
