U.S. 2 dead, 5 wounded in mass shooting in Washington, D.C., police say
Two individuals lost their lives, and five others sustained injuries in a shooting incident in Washington, DC, early Sunday morning, according to police reports.
The shooting occurred at approximately 3 a.m. near the intersection of 7th and P Street Northwest, close to the Kennedy Recreation Center, as stated by the Metropolitan Police Department.
The deceased victims were identified as 32-year-old Anthony Brown from Washington, DC, and 32-year-old Jay Lucks from Baltimore.
The injured victims, all adults, were transported to local hospitals, according to Metropolitan Police Executive Assistant Chief Jeffrey Carroll during a media briefing. Their current conditions are unknown.
Details regarding the shooter(s) and the circumstances leading to the shooting remain unclear. The incident took place approximately twelve blocks northeast of the White House. As of now, no arrests have been made, and no suspects have been named by the police.
The motive behind the shooting is still under investigation. Preliminary findings indicate that one or more suspects deliberately fired a weapon at the victims, as per police statements.
The Metropolitan Police Department has announced a $50,000 reward for anyone providing information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the perpetrator(s).
“We urge anyone with information regarding this incident or any witnesses to come forward and contact the Metropolitan Police Department,” Carroll emphasized.
