Unknown Gunmen Kill Taraba Traditional Ruler
Unknown gunmen fatally shot third-class chief Abdulmutalib Nuhu on Thursday night at Sensani Village in Gasol local government area of Taraba State.
The tragic incident occurred just hours before the scheduled Nwonyo Fishing and Cultural Festival organized by the Taraba State Government in Ibbi local government area.
Ibbi is the hometown of Hamisu Bala, also known as Wadume, a notorious convicted gun runner recently released from prison.
The assailants attacked Sensani village around 9 pm on Thursday, targeting the traditional ruler's palace where they killed Nuhu at his residence, a few kilometers from Ibbi, the festival's venue.
Despite this unfortunate event, the Taraba State Government has reassured attendees of adequate security measures during the festival.
The older brother of the slain chief, Nuhu Sanseni, recounted that the gunmen arrived on motorcycles, armed with guns, and fatally shot his brother, also snatching his phones before fleeing.
“They came to the area at about 9 pm last night, went straight to his palace, shot him, and took his two phones. They also encountered a young man on a motorcycle, shooting and injuring him before leaving the village,” Sanseni narrated.
A senior police officer disclosed that their team is actively pursuing the killers. The Acting Police Public Relations Officer for the Taraba State Police Command, ASP James Lashen, stated that he was en route to the office and would provide updates upon receiving a situation report.
