A U.S. military service member and three defense contractors were killed on Thursday when their plane crashed in the Philippines, officials confirmed.

The aircraft, contracted by the U.S. military, had been conducting intelligence and surveillance operations when it went down in the Maguindanao del Sur province, located in the southern part of the country, according to U.S. Indo-Pacific Command.

“We can confirm there were no survivors of the crash,” officials said in a statement. “The incident occurred during a routine mission in support of U.S.-Philippine security cooperation activities.”

The military did not disclose the type of aircraft involved, and the cause of the crash is still under investigation.
